French Bulldog

French Bulldog

French Bulldogs are known for being companion dogs and bond very well with their owners and have an all around friendliness that makes them affectionate with their family as well as strangers and other dogs, if well socialized early on. This breed of dog is relatively easy to train and are great dogs for first time dog owners, as they are relatively easy to care for.Being companion dogs, they do not do well being left alone and love to be around other people and play. Although they can be very playful, they also have a relaxed nature and will love to nap. Frenchies give lots of love and will expect affection in return, for this reason as well as not having a tolerance for really hot or cold weather, they should be indoor dogs and shouldn't be left alone for extended periods of time. They especially do not tolerate heat very well and owners should ensure their Frenchie is not overheating or overexerting themselves on hot days. Although they do well around other dogs, especially if well socialized, they can have a tendency to be territorial and protective of their owners, so it is important they are exposed to other dogs early on.

French Bulldogs have small bodies that are generally very muscular. They do not require a lot of exercise but should be walked regularly to prevent excessive weight gain. Because they don't need a lot of exercise or large spaces to play, Frenchies adapt very well to apartment style living. Although they are very easy dogs to groom, French Bulldogs are known to drool a lot and shed some; they also will need their nails clipped, as they do not wear down naturally. This breed is relatively easy to train but do struggle sometimes with becoming house trained. They do best in training when they are rewarded for good behavior with food or play. Typically Frenchies will range from 11 to 12 inches tall and weigh from 16 to 28 pounds. They have short hair with loose, wrinkled skin that is very soft.
